When you stay at Hawks Cay, you have everything you need – pools, a saltwater lagoon, restaurants, a spa, and more! You can go fishing, snorkeling, diving, swimming with the dolphins, kayaking, paddle boarding, or playing tennis. It’s all available at the resort.

 

Fun Things to do in the Florida Keys on a Romantic Florida Getaway

• If you are a fan of Katherine Hepburn and Humprey Bogart, plan a visit to the African Queen steamboat and take a tour on her. A canal cruise takes about 1.5 hours and sails down the Port Largo Canals to the Atlantic Ocean. Indulge in gorgeous views, warm sun, and sea breezes on this cruise with your sweetheart.

• Don’t miss a trip to John Pennekamp State Park. This state park is one of the top snorkeling locations in Florida and home to the only living Coral Reef in the United States. You’ll find hundreds of colorful fish and huge Southern rays.

• Sundowners is a great place to eat in Key Largo! With its location right on the water, Sundowners offers spectacular sunsets. And Sundowners is truly ocean-to-table with fresh fish right off the boat. Come for pre-sunset cocktails, and toast the sunset as you enjoy a relaxed, romantic dinner waterside.

• Don’t miss the chance to visit Robbie’s Marina – a must-do stop on your romantic South Florida getaway in Islamorada! Feed the tarpon and watch the feeding frenzy! With admissions at just $2.25 a person, feeding the tarpon is a must-do experience. You’ll find tarpon just hanging out around the pier daily, just waiting for tourists to feed them a tasty snack! Afterward, take a stroll through the shops and see the local artisans.

• Spend a day immersed in nature at Lignumvitae Key Botanical State Park. This 280-acre island is accessible only by boat and is also the 1919 home of William Matheson.

• For beer lovers, make a stop at Islamorada Beer Company – it’s some of the best beer in the Keys!

• Rent a car and drive out to Bahia Honda State Park. Here you can still see the remnant of Henry Flagler’s railroad. It is certainly not the most beautiful beach in Florida, but it has a wild natural beauty and is one of our favorite beaches in the Keys.

• Make a stop at the Turtle Museum in Marathon and learn all about rehabilitating these gorgeous creatures. You’ll have a chance to see them in various stages of rehab, and learn what is the most harmful to these gentle creatures.

Central Florida

Kissimmee

With it’s close proximity to Disney World, Kissimmee is ideal for a Disney lovers romantic weekend! Psst…Disney World is not just for kids! This renowned theme park is fantastic for romantic getaways.

Our top favorite in the Kissimmee area is the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center. This huge luxury resort has everything you can imagine. It includes a spa, fitness center, several incredible dining options, waterpark access, as well as decked out rooms with great views.

With a name like Kissimmee, there is no denying the romantic nature of this central Florida town. An hour from the beach and just south of Orlando, Kissimmee is a good mix of adventure as well as relaxation.

For a taste of history and old-world elegance, our top choice for romantic getaways is Breakers Palm Beach, and it’s simply one of the the grandest resorts in Florida. Designed in the Italian Renaissance style, the resort’s amenities are incredible! They include a private beach, two golf courses, four pools, as well as nine on-site dining options.

Founded by oil and railroad magnate Henry Flagler, The Breakers was another in his string of grand, gorgeous hotels. When the hotel reopened in 1926 following two fires, it was “the place to see and be seen” with well-known families such as the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, Astors, Andrew Carnegie, and J.P. Morgan making the trek to Palm Beach to stay at The Breakers.

The Brazilian Court is all about offering guests a secluded island oasis. The amenities are top shelf, and discreet customer service is a top priority.

St. Augustine

Jim and I are partial to St. Augustine, and escape there whenever we have the opportunity! This historic city has so much to offer, and it is an ideal choice for luxurious romantic getaways!

The Casa Monica Resort offers spacious rooms, with a desk, sofa, amoire, flat screen TV, and bath with luxurious amenities that include a soft, snuggly robes. The property is in the heart of the historic downtown, and walkable, and the amenities are amazing!

The spa treatments at Poisiden Spa are great, and I highly recommend booking a couples treatment while in St. Augustine.

There is an outdoor pool, hot tub, spa, restaurant and bar, a Starbucks, and wifi throughout. They are pet friendly, with restrictions.

Another fabulous property, and it is my favorite, is the Collector Inn & Gardens. The Collector is made up of nine historic homes, so the rooms are eclectic in their decor. There are gardens throughout the property with brick walkways. A free continental breakfast is included.

The beds are just amazing! I could not wait to come back to the room after a full day, and snuggle in the luxuriously cool sheets. I’m a bit particular about mattresses, and the ones at the Collector did not disappoint!

Plan a late afternoon stop at The Well, the on site bar at the Collector. The bartender is incredible, and he can whip up a cocktail that meets your unique cocktail flavor preference.

No matter where you choose to stay in the historic downtown district, you are within walking distance of so many things!
